News Release - Fall YELC STEM Service Learning Conference

Youth Environmental Leadership Conference (YELC)

Join the Fall YELC STEM Service Learning Conference!
When: Saturday, October 24, 2015 8:30 am ‐4:00pm
Where: Granite Hills High School
22900 Esaws Road
Apple Valley, CA 92307

Student teams will rotate through workshops and the “STEMFest” Exhibitor Forum, spending time with STEM career experts.

Students Helping the Environment Through STEM Service Learning YELC encourages teams of students to become engaged while developing critical thinking skills as they identify an environmental school or community need, then work together to access, design, and implement an environmental Service Learning project.

Environmental Service Learning projects can be as simple as providing recycling bins on your campus, conducting an easy energy audit to save your school $$, or even water-wise gardens. What about using robotics for recycling projects?

Existing student clubs, classrooms, Boy or Girl Scouts, and private schools can create a project to better their environment! Meet and team up with community partners and mentors who can help you implement your project during YELC, and learn about “green” STEM careers while visiting the “STEMFest” Exhibitor Forum during the conference.

Keynote Speaker
Garner Holt Productions was founded in 1977 by Garner L. Holt, who was then only 16 years old! Garner’s first fully-functional animatronic figure was an Uncle Sam figure built to celebrate the US Bicentennial in 1976, and since 1977, GHP has built nearly 3,000 individual animatronic figures and hundreds of animated props and show action systems. GHP was the first outside company allowed to create an animatronic figure for a classic Disney attraction.
